JK Rowling to write first adult novel

Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows

Story by Jack Foley

JK Rowling is to publish her first novel for adults, the writer has confirmed.

The new novel promises to be “very different” from the Harry Potter books she is famous for and will be published worldwide, although no date or title has yet been released.

“The freedom to explore new territory is a gift that Harry’s success has brought me,” Rowling said.

She also intends to use a new publisher because “with that new territory it seemed a logical progression to have a new publisher”.

She explained: Although I’ve enjoyed writing it every bit as much, my next book will be very different to the Harry Potter series, which has been published so brilliantly by Bloomsbury and my other publishers around the world.

“I am delighted to have a second publishing home in Little, Brown, and a publishing team that will be a great partner in this new phase of my writing life.”

The writer published a total of seven Harry Potter books, selling more than 450 million copies around the world, and prompting an eight blockbuster film series starring Daniel Radcliffe.

The final Harry Potter book, The Deathly Hallows, was published in 2007 and sold thousands of copies in minutes.
