Payday returns with Akira The Don
Story by Jack Foley
FOLLOWING its phenomenally successful launch recently, which saw Neighbourhood packed to the rafters, Payday is set to return on Friday, April 28, 2006.
A chuffed Eddy Temple-Morris and Dub Pistols front man, Barry Ashworth, are proud to announce a line-up comprised of indie/rap innovator Akira The Don, Freestyler’s Matt Cantor, delivering a DJ set and hot new unsigned buzz band, Dead Kids, live.
Taking place the last Friday of each month, Payday at Neighbourhood is designed to kick ass and shatter the illusion that west London doesn’t do intimate live music – as that’s exactly what you’ll get with this cross genre, boundary-breaking night.
Hosted by Xfm Remix presenter, Eddy Temple-Morris, also the brains behind Manumission’s Ibiza Rocks, The Remix at Cargo and Kill All Hippies, and Dub Pistols front man Barry Ashworth, guests can expect to hear the very best in hot unsigned bands, smash up, jump up dance music, peppered with bootlegs and gems mixed with the very best in rock..
The launch night found Warren Suicide play a mini-stadium gig, breakbeat/drum ‘n’ bass dons Pendulum tear it up, and new unsigned band, Kill Electric, make an impression.
The highlight of April’s set will undoubtedly be Akira The Don – who, on first impressions, looks like Kurt Cobain. A self-confessed “rap Morrisey”, Akira will perform twisted, mashed up hip hop.
Payday is open from 9pm till 2am. £6 concessions. £8 tickets in advance from www.clubpayday.co.uk £10 Door.
12 Acklam Rd, London, W10 (Ladbroke Grove/ Westbourne Grove).
