Win God's Own Country on DVD

God's Own Country

LIONSGATE and Picturehouse Entertainment are delighted to announce the UK Home Entertainment release of Francis Lee’s celebrated debut feature, God’s Own Country.

Since launching at Sundance Film Festival early 2017 and opening the 2017 Edinburgh International Film Festival, where it won the Michael Powell Award for Best British Feature, God’s Own Country has gone on to achieve widespread critical acclaim.

The recent 2017 British Independent Film Awards saw the film win the Best British Independent Film Award, alongside Best Actor for Josh O’Connor, Debut Screenwriter for Francis Lee, along with the Best Sound award.

God’s Own Country is a contemporary tale of self-discovery and emotional-awakening set on the sheep farming hills of rural England. Johnny Saxby (Josh O’Connor; The Riot Club, The Durrells) works long hours on his family’s remote farm in the north of England.

He numbs the daily frustration of his lonely existence with nightly binge-drinking at the local pub and casual sex. But when a handsome Romanian migrant worker (Alec Secareanu) arrives to take up temporary work on the family farm, Johnny suddenly finds himself having to deal with emotions he has never felt before.

As they begin working closely together during lambing season, an intense relationship starts to form which could change Johnny’s life forever.

Captivating and broodingly beautiful, God’s Own Country is a thrillingly romantic story. Both poignant and moving, this finely crafted British film features a host of standout performances, cementing it as one of the most successful films of the year.

God’s Own Country is releasing on Blu-ray and DVD from January 29, 2018.

Win Chadwick Boseman's Marshall on DVD

Marshall

IN 1940, long before he sat on the US Supreme Court or claimed victory in Brown v. Board of Education, Thurgood Marshall (Chadwick Boseman) is a young rabble-rousing attorney for the NAACP.

Marshall explores one his greatest challenges in those early days: the case of black chauffeur Joseph Spell (Sterling K. Brown), accused by his white employer, Eleanor Strubing (Kate Hudson), of sexual assault and attempted murder.

While most of Marshall’s work is in the south, the Spell case lands him in the wealthy white enclaves of Connecticut, where racism is never far from the surface. Angry picketers and tabloid headlines scream for Spell’s conviction as black servants are fired by their fearful white employers.

Marshall’s attempt to fight for his client is stymied by Judge Colin Foster (James Cromwell), who allows him to attend the trial, but not speak. This leaves the defense in the shaky hands of Samuel Friedman (Josh Gad), who has no interest in trying this case.

Local prosecutor Lorin Willis (Dan Stevens) senses an easy victory. Marshall and Friedman struggle against fear and prejudice – and each other – as they unravel the twisted tale to its shocking conclusion, with their client’s life hanging in the balance.

Largely forgotten by history, The State of Connecticut v. Joseph Spell helped lay the groundwork for the Civil Rights Movement to come, and informed the legal doctrine of one of America’s greatest jurists.

Directed by Reginald Hudlin, the key cast includes Chadwick Boseman (Get On Up, Captain America: Civil War, Black Panther), Josh Gad (The Wedding Ringer, Murder On The Orient Express), Kate Hudson (Almost Famous, Bride Wars) and Dan Stevens (Beauty & The Beast, TV’s Downton Abbey).

Marshall is rated 15 and has a running time of approximately 1 hour 58 minutes.

Win a copy of Robert Altman's Images on Blu-ray!

Images

Preview by Jack Foley

ONE of Robert Altman’s (The Long Goodbye, Gosford Park, McCabe & Mrs. Miller) greatest masterpieces, Images, is a tour-de-force of psychological horror.

Dealing with hallucinations and apparitions, the film deftly blends reality with nightmare as Susannah York’s children’s author is terrorised by visions of mayhem and murder. On its release, Images reaped accolades although it has now become one of Altman’s lesser known works, so this Arrow Academy release marks the perfect time to rediscover it.

Once thought lost after it was rumoured that the original negatives were burned by Columbia Pictures, Images is here given the release it deserves, with a brand new 4K restoration from the original – distinctly not burned – negative making the most of that stunning cinematography.

The Blu-ray is also packed with special features to keep even the most ardent cinephile happy. A commentary and interview recorded prior to Altman’s death in 2006 are joined by brand new features such as an interview with actor Cathryn Harrison to make this a must-have for Altman devotees.

Images arrives on March 19, 2018 from Arrow Academy.

Available to pre-order now

Synopsis

Originally conceived in the mid-sixties, Images concerns a pregnant children’s author (Susannah York, who won the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival) whose husband (Rene Auberjonois) may or may not be having an affair. While holidaying in Ireland, her mental state becomes increasingly unstable resulting in paranoia, hallucinations and visions of a doppelgänger.

Scored by an Oscar-nominated John Williams, with ‘sounds’ by Stomu Yamash’ta (The Man Who Fell to Earth), Images also boasts the remarkable cinematography of Vilmos Zsigmond (Close Encounters of the Third Kind).
