Baaria - Preview & competition

Baaria

Preview by Jack Foley

THE epic tale of Baarìa comes to DVD on January 10, 2011, from Entertainment One.

From Giuseppe Tornatore, the acclaimed director of the Academy Award® winning classic Cinema Paradiso, Baarìa is a masterpiece that follows three generations of the same family in Twentieth Century Italy.

Set against the backdrop of the Sicilian town Bagheria, simply called Baarìa by its inhabitants, unfolds a semi-autobiographical, mesmerising story of spirited shepherd Ciccio (Gaetano Aronica), his son Peppino (Francesco Scianna) and grandson Peitro (Giuseppe Garufi).

Baarìa explores love and marriage, growing up and growing old, poverty and exploitation and times of peace and war with Peppino at the heart the narrative which follows him from childhood, to a secret romance with the beautiful Mannina (Margareth Madè), to his political ascent and personal fight against the mafia.

Baarìa is an emotional journey to the heart of Italy, beautifully written and directed by Tornatore, it is a grand and luxurious film to lose yourself in this January.

Baaria is released on DVD on January 10, courtesy of Entertainment One.
