Cross of Iron - Blu-ray Preview

Cross of Iron

Preview by Jack Foley

HERALDED as the most anti-war war film ever made, Cross Of Iron is a bloody and thought-provoking depiction of the horrors of war featuring an epic battle of wills between aristocratic Prussian Officer Stransky (Maximilian Schell) and gutsy Sergeant Rolf Steiner (James Coburn).

The film is set on the Eastern Front in World War II during the Soviet’s Caucasus operations that forced the Wehrmacht to retreat from the Taman Peninsula on the Black Sea in late 1943.

Director Sam Peckinpah has served as an inspiration for everyone from Tarantino to Kathryn Bigelow.

Cross of Iron and Ice Cold in Alex will be showing at the Odeon Panton St (in London) from June 17.
