POOR business student JW (Joel Kinnaman) is living a double life mingling with the wealthy elite. To keep up the façade of his exclusive lifestyle and to capture the attention of a sexy heiress, he’s lured into a world of crime to make some quick cash.
When JW crosses paths with a fugitive on the run from both the police and the mafia, they hope that brokering a one-off cocaine deal will allow them to escape from their past for good.
But when a mafia enforcer hunts them down, JW’s journey ventures deeper into the dark world of organised crime, and the fate of all three men becomes entangled in a dramatic struggle between life and death.
Easy Money has been championed by Martin Scorsese, and you can see why: Espinosa’s balance of tension and violence with empathetic characterisation owes much to the legacy of his illustrious supporter.
Looking for the perfect gift this Christmas? Pick up a copy of this slick, tense and effortlessly stylish thriller that will draw you in, and just keep tightening its grip.
Need another reason? Espinosa went on to direct Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds in the excellent Safe House. While leading man Joel Kinnaman has since made a name for himself in the US version of TV’s The Killing. He will also be seen in the title role of Robocop next year.
