Eddie Izzard: Stripped - Preview
Preview by Jack Foley
EDDIE Izzard released his hotly anticipated new DVD Stripped on November 23.
The DVD comes from the Stripped tour, which broke box office records, selling out a five-week residency in London’s West End in less than 48 hours.
With bootleg tickets exchanging hands for thousands of pounds, Stripped was undisputedly the must-have ticket. It came hot on the heels of an American sell-out tour, which played across 34 US cities – including three packed-out nights at New York’s legendary Radio City Music Hall.
Stripped arrived at the Lyric theatre where the live DVD was filmed and played to overwhelming critical acclaim. Stripped Live sees Eddie back at his very best and is a chance to experience Eddie’s unique brand of comedy in this historic west end theatre. This DVD also contains extras including exclusive behind the scenes footage, trivia tracks and five Sport Relief Blogs.
Stripped is currently about to hit the road in true Izzardesque rock’n’roll style when Eddie embarks on a UK and European tour. This time the show comes to town complete with a fleet of Stripped tricks, three LED screens, 9 set screen and sky trackers.
In January 2010, Izzard, the man who turned talking bollocks into an art form and who has been described by the Guardian as a ‘National Treasure’ will become the fourth only comedian to ever play Madison Square Garden.
Eddie Izzard has been hailed as one of the foremost stand-ups of his generation. He takes ideas and situations and extrapolates them into bizarre, absurd and surreal comic narratives.
Since his first stage appearance on London’s West End in 1993 there have been a succession of sell-outs and critically acclaimed international tours. Eddie’s musings have earned him countless awards including two Emmy’s.
Whilst initially renowned as a comedian, Eddie is now respected as a film, theatre and TV actor. His hugely successful FX drama The Riches has been screened all over the world.
Earlier this year he shared the big screen with Tom Cruise in Valkyrie and over Christmas he will star opposite Joely Richardson and Dougray Scott in the BBC’s remake of Day of the Triffids.
Eddie recently took a few weeks off and ran 1,200 miles around the UK for Sport Relief, that’s a staggering 43 marathons in 51 days.
