Friends reunited? Kathleen Turner drops hint
Story by Jack Foley
THE cast of Friends could well be reuniting for four one-off specials according to various hints, rumours and dropped comments circulating around the internet.
The story first broke last week when an NBC insider was quoted as saying that Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer and Matt Le Blanc had been persuaded to return for the one-off episodes.
But fans’ hopes were quickly quashed when an NBC chief denied any such possibility existed.
But actress Kathleen Turner has re-fuelled rumours of a reunion by letting slip to reporters that she has been asked to appear in the sit-com.
She said she had been approached about the possibility of reprising her role as Chandler’s transvestite father, adding that it was “possible”.
Turner, 51, made the comment while doing publicity for her latest West End show, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, although she added: “I haven’t got any dates yet or anything.”
But when asked whether the approach had been in relation to appearing in the four one-hour specials, she added: “I think so, I hope so. They said it might be happening. I’ve got no details about the story or anything.”
Her comments fly in the face of the denial made by a Warner Bros spokesman earlier in the week who insisted there were no plans for any new episodes.
“There is absolutely no truth in it – it’s all rumour,” she said. “There is nothing planned of any kind.”
Friends is one of the most popular television comedies in television history and made millionaires and stars of its sex protagonists.
In the UK, the final episode attracted 8.6 million viewers when it was shown on Channel 4 in May 2004.
