JEAN-Pierre Melville originally adapted the novel Un Reglement de Comptes into the 1966 classic Le Deuxième Souffle.
The Second Wind, Alain Corneau remake, stars Daniel Auteuil (Hidden, 36) as iconic French gangster Gustav “Gu” Minda and Monica Belluci (Malena, The Private Lives of Pippa Lee) as the smouldering Manouche, his lover and partner in crime.
After a risky escape from jail, Gu plans to escape to Italy with the proceeds from a daring robbery.
A “last” heist never goes according to plan, however, and the resulting fallout explores the new realities for Gu of life amongst the criminal fraternities, the declining value of trust and loyalty, and the corrosive complicity between criminals and cops.
