Twilight fans gather at Westfields London to mark final chapter - watch footage

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2

Story by Jack Foley

TWILIGHT fans gathered in London to celebrate one of the biggest film franchises in history coming to a close.

Monday, March 11, 2013, saw the last chapter in what has been one of the most successful film franchises in history released on Blu-ray and DVD – and fans of The Twilight Saga marked the occasion with a suitably dramatic finale.

To celebrate the DVD and Blu-ray release of the final film in the series, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, hundreds of devastated fans (or Twi-hards) descended on Westfield London for one last time to gather at what many have now dubbed to be their unofficial shrine.

The vast outdoor digital screen at the West-London shopping centre has been transformed into the world’s first nocturnal billboard, remaining dormant during the day and coming to life only as darkness falls.

Or, to be specific, when it reaches Twilight…

Jeff Suter, Senior Product Manager at Entertainment One, noted: “A huge part of the entire saga has always been the fans, so we knew that this final release had to cater to them. The nocturnal screen at Westfield has provided a meeting place for the Twi-hards to join together and celebrate what has been an incredible journey”.

Commenting on the screen itself, Ocean Outdoor Marketing Director Richard Malton said: “The use of Ocean’s full motion digital screen builds anticipation with a dynamic countdown to the DVD release date, using images of the stars and highlights from the film.”

Emma Clark, 26, a life-long Twilight fan from Newcastle said: “I wanted to come down today to see all the other fans for one last time. I’ve been to every London premiere since the first film, there was no way I was going to miss this last gathering. I still can’t believe it’s the end, I’m devastated, but seeing the nocturnal advert come to life was a really special moment and something that I’ll remember forever.”

Holly Miles, 17, from Oxfordshire was also at Westfield and added: “My friends and family think I’m bonkers for loving a film so much. I had to come down and be with my fellow Twi-hards though… there were even two topless Werewolves who looked like Taylor Lautner who made it completely worth the trip down to London!”

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 is released on Blu-ray and DVD on Monday, March 11, 2013.
