THE award-winning, controversial Russia 88 comes to DVD on May 9, from director Pavel Bardin and based on real-life facts of present day life in Russia. To mark its release we have 3 copies to give away.

The film was awarded Best Film at the Spirit of Fire Festival only for it to be reversed – by order of Government officials at the Kremlin. There are also stories of festival panellists being ‘leant’ on to not vote in favour of the film – as it raised the issue of widespread racism, extremely prevalent in Moscow.

Focusing on a fictional neo-Nazi group known as, the titular, ‘Russia 88’ the film is a fascinating but disturbing look at the rise of xenophobia and nationalism in Russia.

A gang of skinheads ‘Russia 88’ are filming propaganda videos in order to place it on the internet. At the same time the camera records the life of the gang, they become accustomed to this and stop paying attention to it.

The leader of the gang ‘Blade’ discovers that his sister is dating a Caucasian guy. This family drama develops into a tragedy
