A Painted Odyssey - 3 Bedfordbury Gallery
A PAINTED Odyssey, an exhibition of paintings by Gabrielle Pool and David Cottingham, will be on display at 3 Bedfordbury Gallery from June 23 to July 4, 2011.
Australia-based artist Gabrielle Pool experienced life with the Hamer Tribe in Ethiopia and the Massai in Kenya. She was presented with sacred body paint pigments and began to incorporate these into her work. She regards this first African experience as a defining moment in her artistic practice.
Since then she has worked to record the world’s vanishing tribes including time spent on Aboriginal stations in the Western Desert region of central Australia. She was invited by Nelson Mandela to travel to Africa to collaborate in the Unity Series alongside 20 other leading international artists.
London based artist David Cottingham graduated from St Martin’s School of Art in London, where he studied with William Tucker, Phillip King RA and Sir Anthony Caro. He is now a London-based painter and has developed a large body of work in both the figurative and abstract traditions.
This exhibition features Cottinghams landscape-influenced, abstract paintings. His rich colour palette and a dynamic application of paint captures the daybreaks and sunsets of remote places from around the world.
Times: Wednesday to Saturday 12pm – 6pm.
