Backstage Tours at the National Theatre
Feature by Lizzie Guilfoyle
Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at the theatre? If the answer is yes, then why not find out by taking a Backstage Tour at the South Bank’s world famous National Theatre.
Each year, more than 20,000 people do exactly that. With experienced and enthusiastic guides, they not only discover fascinating historical details but also learn ingenious tricks of the trade.
And as well as the three auditoriums (Olivier, Lyttelton and Cottesloe) there’s a chance to go backstage, as well as to the production workshops and paintframe (unique amongst London theatres) where sets and props are built.
Tours last approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes and take place up to five times a day, depending on performance times and demand. Booking is recommended.
Tickets: £5 per person, £4 concessions, £13 (2 adults and 2 under 18s).
