Build an Otter Den at Camden Arts Centre

Event preview

ON Sunday, January 18, 2015, at Camden Arts Centre, families are invited to help build an otter holt which will then form part of Ruth Ewan’s upcoming exhibition, Back to the Fields. Participants will learn how otters build their homes and collaborate to make one in the gallery from wood, branches and piping.

The otter holt created during the workshop will represent the ‘Otter’ day in the exhibition Back to the Fields which brings to life the French Republican Calendar (used in France from 1793 until 1805).

In the calendar, months and weeks were restructured and seasons and days renamed in collaboration with artists, poets and horticulturalists to reflect the annual cycle of nature and agriculture. Back to the Fields will run at Camden Arts Centre from January 30 to March 29, 2015.

The workshop will present an exciting opportunity to see behind the scenes at Camden Arts Centre and contribute to the exhibition, with the artist, experts from the International Otter Survival Foundation, Camden Arts Centre’s technicians and the Education team.

Everyone is welcome to come to this free event, although booking is essential. The activity is particularly recommended for families with children aged five years and upwards.

Bookings are required for a free space for each member of the family; places are limited. Bookings can be made online at www.camdenartscentre.org or by phone on 020 7472 5500.
