Children’s half term courses at Camden Arts Centre

CAMDEN Arts Centre is holding two special courses for children during the October half term. The courses are run for both age groups 5-7 (Infants) and 8-11 (Juniors).

They are taught by artists and use the current exhibitions as starting points so that children have visual references to begin each day.

Sound Machines, a course with Judith Brocklehurst, inspired by Haroon Mirza’s exhibition I saw square triangle sine.

Sound Machines will take children on an aural investigation, inviting them to build their own instruments using digital and hand crafted objects. They will work together to create home made speakers and produce a fantastical digital sound installation.

Dates: Tuesday, October 25 to Friday, October 28, 2011.

Times: Juniors 10.30am to 1pm; Infants 2pm to 4.30pm.

Cost: £140, £70 concessions – booking essential.

Clay, a course with Elly Wall, inspired by the practice of artists Nathalie Djurberg and Haroon Mirza.

Children will create landscapes of tunnels and chambers to create miniature ceramic obstacle courses. They will develop skills in ceramics as well as a sensitivity to sound, surface texture and an imaginative use of scale.

Dates: Tuesday, October 25 to Friday, October 28, 2011.

Times: Infants 10.30am to 1pm (sold out); Juniors 2pm to 4.30pm.
