Face of Fashion - National Portrait Gallery
Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle
A PHOTOGRAPHIC Exhibition, Face of Fashion, is on display at the National Portrait Gallery until May 28, 2007.
Fashion and portraiture have long been intertwined but this major exhibition explores the links through the work of five outstanding contemporary photographers from Europe and America – Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, Corinne Day, Steven Klein, Paolo Roversi and Mario Sorrenti.
In the contemporary fashion world, models, actors, sports heroes and designers frequently swap places. The exhibition highlights the relationship between fashion and celebrity and illustrates the extraordinary intimacy that often develops between photographer and subject.
Sitters include up and coming models as well as stars such as Kate Moss, Madonna, Brad Pitt and Julianne Moore.
The exhibition is curated by Susan Bright and the installation is designed by David Adjaye. It contains some images of nudity that may not be felt appropriate for younger children.
