Free Family Events at Westminster Abbey
THIS summer Westminster Abbey has a programme of free family events, running on Tuesdays and Thursdays from July 25 to August 20, 2013.
All activities are suitable for children aged 5+, accompanied by an adult. Events are held outside in the beautiful setting of College Garden (or the Education Centre if wet).
All events are free to attend, but as places are limited, booking is recommended. Contact email@example.com.
Knight School – Thursday, July 25 from 2.30pm to 4pm.
Learn how Henry V trained to become a knight, and make a helmet to take home.
Monks and Manuscripts – Tuesday, July 30 from 2.30pm to 4pm.
Until 1540, Westminster Abbey was the home of a community of Benedictine Monks. Find out what their lives were like and illuminate a beautiful manuscript.
Plants and Patterns – Thursday, August 1 from 2.30pm to 4pm.
Explore the beautiful patterns inside and outside the Abbey. Decorate a pot and plant a seed and watch it grow at home.
Kings and Queens – Tuesday, August 6 from 2.30pm to 4pm.
Learn about the Kings and Queens crowned at Westminster Abbey over the years and design and make your own crown.
Elizabethans Alive – Thursday, August 8 from 2.30pm to 4pm.
Join Bo’sun Bill and his friend, Lily, to find out about life in Tudor England. Crew the ship and learn how to present yourself at court, with music and dancing!
Saints and Stories – Tuesday, August 13 from 11.30am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 2.30pm.
Discover the fascinating life of the founder of Westminster Abbey, St. Edward the Confessor, through songs and stories. A special event for Under 7s with a performance by Theatre Tots Ltd followed by an interactive workshop, held in St Catherine’s Chapel Garden.
Great Explorers – Thursday, August 15 from 2.30pm to 4pm.
Learn about the lives of some of the great explorers buried at Westminster Abbey and perhaps you’ll discover the source of the River Nile in the gardens!
Westminster Safari – Tuesday, August 20 from 2.30pm to 4pm.
The Abbey gardens are home to some amazing wildlife. Come and see what creatures you can find.
