Ingrid Baar at Scream - Exhibition
Feature by Veronica Blake
SINCE her graduation from Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam in 1992 Ingrid Barr’s illustrations have been published in magazines such as Cosmopolitan, Playboy, and Elle.
In 1997, she won the Illustration of the Year award from BNO.
Baar’s cannot be classified into one single category. She uses mixed media techniques to represeent the contrasts and intensity of her subjects bringing her visual art to life.
She reworks, photographs and digitally manipulates elements into luminous mysterious and poetic images. Balanced compositions, subdued colours and stong forms captivate the viewer.
The figures play a subtle erotic game, being atractive and unapproachable at the same time.
The combination of familiarity and strangeness, figurative and abstract creates the tension that can electrify the less careful viewer.
Her depiction of Madonna and Karl Lagerfield are like you’ve never seen them before.
Baars’ work is being exhibited from September 20 until October 7.
