Jubilee Family Festival - Hyde Park

War Horse, Billy Elliot and Lissa Hermans

Event preview

KARA Tointon and Artem Chigvintsev will be joining the line up at the Jubilee Family Festival. Presented by Sainsbury’s, it will take place in Hyde Park on Saturday, June 2 and Suday, June 3, 2012.

The winners of Strictly Come Dancing 2010 will once again partner on stage for a special Jubilee rendition of the popular BBC show, which will be hosted by Craig Revel Horwood.

They will join 2011 finalist Chelsee Healey who will be partnered for the first time with Strictly professional Robin Windsor.

The festival will also feature exclusive West End performances specially designed to be performed in Hyde Park.

The cast of the multi award-winning Billy Elliot the Musical will perform the memorable and moving Electricity by Elton John and Lee Hall; The Lion King will be part of The Magic of Disney In Concert finale; and there will be a special performance by Joey and Topthorn, the stars of War Horse.

Choreographed especially for the Jubilee Family Festival, this unique and special appearance will also feature the author of War Horse, Michael Morpurgo, alongside both life-sized horse puppets from the show.

And Lissa Hermans, one of the long-term members of Chickenshed Theatre, will open the festival on Saturday, June 2 with a performance of God Save The Queen.

Lissa Hermans, who is blind, has been a member of the Chickenshed Theatre since she was seven years old, and embodies the philosophy that Chickenshed, a not-for-profit inclusive theatre company, set forth – to unite people of all abilities to allow them to perform together and to empower one another through creative expression.

Lissa, who has previously performed for her majesty The Queen, has recorded the first ever single release of the national anthem to be released for charity on May 27.

The Jubilee Family Festival will be the perfect curtain raiser for the Diamond Jubilee celebrations and a wonderful environment for the whole family to soak up all of the entertainment on offer. Visitors to London will not miss a moment of the official Jubilee celebrations, as they are televised on giant screens across the Hyde Park site.

Bringing back the British fun of the Village Green, the festival will also feature friendly traditional competitive events like tug-of-war, sack races, egg and spoon races, wheelbarrow races and the very British pastime of welly wanging.

This unique celebration will have something for everyone: from the daily finale of The Magic Of Disney In Concert, an unforgettable, 70-minute Disney concert, starring Princesses and Pirates and produced specially to mark the Jubilee celebrations to the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, Billy Elliot The Musical and War Horse, as well as a Kids Zone with 20-minute performances from Fireman Sam, Thomas and Friends and Angela Ballerina.

A Parade Ground will not only provide the traditional pomp and circumstance for the occasion but also death-defying stunts from The White Helmets Motorcycle Display Team and a very rare parachute drop into Hyde Park.

Over 30 brands will have free activation areas at the Festival, which includes an exciting range of interactive activities for all the family, such as a Cheeky Monkey Tea Party, football training with Sports Power League Coaches, a medieval themed castle, a Krafty Kids Workshop, a Balsam Care Spa, baking demonstrations with C4’s Baking Mad star, Eric Lanlard, and cakemaker to the stars, Mich Turner, cooking displays with royal recipes and Britain’s Greatest Tournament, presented by medieval themed characters.
