Kisetsu-fu (A Seasonal Wind) - Asia House
Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle
AN EXHIBITION of work by Sawako Ando, Kisetsu-fu (A Seasonal Wind), is on display in Café t at Asia House – from April 28 to June 14, 2008.
Ando’s prints express the energy and spirit of a specific place rather than a visual representation. She removes details, reducing her compositions to the essential elements of calligraphic mark-making as metaphors for her emotional response to her subject matter.
The prints shown in Kisetsu-fu show the importance of colour and spontaneity of gesture in capturing emotions, memories and impressions.
A graduate of the Slade School of Art, London and Musashino Art University, Tokyo, Ando has exhibited widely in the UK and Japan, including On Time at the Courtauld Institute.
Café t is host to a changing programme of exhibitions by emerging artists, and is open Monday to Saturday from 11am to 5pm.
Asia House, 63 New Cavendish Street, London, W1G 7LP.
