MADE 08 - Morley College
Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle
THIS year’s annual MADE exhibition which celebrate the finest work of the College’s visual art students, has been extended from two to three parts.
The exhibition will be a fusion of materials, techniques and craftsmanship, reflecting the talent and creativity of Morley’s adult students across a wide range of art forms. Showcased first from April 10, 2008, will be selected textile and jewellery pieces and, as always, some of this unique work will be for sale at affordable prices.
Sculpture and glass engraving takes the spotlight from the end of April. Morley College is the only place that offers glass engraving courses in London so this will be a rare opportunity to view this particular work. Morley’s Sculpture Studio was established through support from the Henry Moore Foundation and the exhibition will seek to demonstrate that the studio is still producing sculpture worthy of the association.
Lastly, the threesome will be completed by work from Painting and Drawing students between May 15 and early June. Morley College is lucky to have such eminent current artists such as Maggi Hambling and Jane Joseph teaching these disciplines so the expectations are high.
For all three parts of MADE 08 there will be an open early evening talk from artists and tutors discussing the various concepts and techniques – hopefully available as podcasts.
Speaking about the exhibition, Gallery Manager Jane Hartwell, said:
“MADE attracts great interest each year due to the wide range and standard of art teaching at Morley. Two shows is just not enough anymore, we would have had to exclude so many excellent pieces that deserve to be seen by as wide an audience as possible!”
