New Jewellery Resolutions - Platform, Hatton Garden

NEW Jewellery Resolutions, an exhibition celebrating everything that is innovative in ideas, design and material, is being launched this week in London’s Hatton Garden.
The new show will be on display until March 26, 2010 at Platform Showcase, a gallery dedicated to showcasing contemporary jewellery and accessories from a range of designers and makers.
By bringing together a range of new and established designers, Platform’s new showcase offers a compelling and exciting collection for anyone with an eye for contemporary design.
Each collection has something unique to offer and some of the innovations on display include the use of driftwood and fish skin by designer Helga Mogensen; a bamboo range by Stephanie Ray; and the use of resin for Kaz Robertson’s interchangeable magnetic rings and necklaces.
Other ranges include Frances Wadsworth Jones and Sarah Herriot who use the latest computer technology to help realise their fantastic designs.
The full list of the designers new to this showcase is:
Laura Bennett – using natural materials such as acorns.
Angela Fung – kinetic rings with semi-precious stones.
Frances Wadsworth Jones – ant jewellery that is playful and draws a smile.
Sarah Herriot – timeless silver forms that are easy to wear.
Sarah Hutchison – floral organic forms with scattered stones and pearls.
Leah Miles – sculptured paper to create precious brooches, necklaces, earrings and bangles.
Helga Mogensen – silver used freely, combined with driftwood and fish skin.
John Moore – interchangeable, brightly coloured aluminium necklaces and earrings.
Stephanie Ray – silver simply accented with bamboo.
Kaz Robertson – resin with silver, ‘swop top’ rings.
Saloukee – laser cut, feminine paper jewellery.
Katherine Wardropper – exquisite silk floral neckpieces with Swarovski crystals and pearls.
Although the gallery has been operational since summer 2009, this new showcase also marks a turning point and ‘resolution’ within its development, with new manager, designer and maker Sarah Hutchison, not only curating this showcase but also exhibiting her work.
Sarah feels that her experience within the jewellery sector will give Platform an exciting edge on other similar jewellery exhibition spaces. As she explains:
“I thought the New Resolutions theme would enable me to bring in jewellers whose work I think is representative of all that is new and exciting within contemporary designer jewellery. It also marks an exciting challenge for me to turn Platform into one of the ‘must see’ galleries in London.”
