Night Salon and Neckinger River Walk
Preview by Lizzie Guilfoyle
THIS September, artist Ana Laura Lopez de La Torre is presenting two events as part of her residency at Acme’s Galleria Studios in Southwark.
Night Salon: Darkness and Intuition – Friday, September 19, 2008.
As part of her Night Salon series Ana Laura Lopez de la Torre explores darkness and intuition, and the role both concepts play in the production of knowledge in areas as diverse as art or religion.
Participants are invited to come together with other Southwark residents in a relaxed and fun environment to discuss how literature, philosophy, art and spirituality construct definitions of darkness and intuition and put them to use.
Speakers include Neil Chapman (writer), Amy Sharrocks (artist) and Reverend Dr. Rosemarie Mallett (Head of Angel Town Parish).
Time: 7:30 pm (doors open at 7pm).
Studio 96, The Galleria, Pennack Road (off Sumner Road), London, SE15 6PW.
Neckinger River Walk: A collaboration with artist Amy Sharrocks – Tuesday, September 23, 2008.
The group walk tracing the course of the lost Neckinger River from the Surrey Canal in Peckham to its mouth on the Thames, starts at dusk and as night time falls, the walkers will re-trace a path originally divined on a contemporary map of Southwark by water dowser Vicky Sweetlove.
This walk is the result of informal walks and conversations carried out by Ana Laura Lopez de la Torre and Amy Sharrocks over the last year. It brings together Sharrocks’ London is a River City and Lopez de la Torre’s Night time in Southwark projects. Noticing that both night and water are unavoidable parts of our daily lives, the artists seek to question issues of access and ownership of these natural resources.
Meeting point: Peckham Library, London, SE15 (bring comfortable footwear).
NB: Both events are free but booking is essential (on 07817 654 468 or at firstname.lastname@example.org).
