NT Free Exhibitions - July to September 2010
Exhibition preview
AS WELL as the permanent exhibition Stage by Stage, the National Theatre hosts a changing programme of exhibitions throughout the year.
Infinite Variety – July 1 to August 15.
‘So much has been said and sung of beautiful young girls. Why doesn’t somebody wake up to the beauty of old women?’ – Harriet Beecher Stowe.
In these days of obsession with youth, where only young beauty seems to be valued, signs of encroaching age are loathed as reminders of a process of ultimate decay.
But older women cannot be as beautifully young as the young, so why try? Why not celebrate the gains in depth, personality and individuality that are traded for the superficial sheen of youth? Why not learn to love grey, silver and delicately etched lines?
Curated by actress Harriet Walter, this exhibition celebrates the beauty of the ageing female face.
The Press Photographer’s Year 2010 – July 12 to September 12.
The Press Photographer’s Year is unique: the only competition that showcases the outstanding photography commissioned for and used in the UK media.
Designed by photographers for photographers, and judged by their peers, it celebrates the unsung art of seeing through the chaos to capture that one still moment which defines an entire news event.
With a thought-provoking collection of images from 2009, The Press Photographer’s Year returns to the National Theatre for a fifth successive year and is held in association with The British Press Photographers’ Association and sponsored by Canon cameras.
