Optronica 2007 - Preview
Preview by Jack Foley
AFTER touring its cinema programmes from the US to China and all over Europe, Optronica’s hybrid film and music festival takes place once again in London, from March 14 – 18, 2007, at the BFI Southbank and BFI IMAX cinema.
This year’s event promises to be another must-see spectacular celebration of visual music on the big screen.
Programmed and produced by audiovisual artists Addictive TV and new-media curators Cinefeel, in partnership with the BFI, the Optronica festival explores the fusion of music and visuals, and features live AV performances, screenings, illustrated talks, workshops and related special presentations.
This year’s line-up includes the world premières of new shows from a fantastic range of artists, including Fred Deakin and Nick Franglen of Lemon Jelly, prolific designer and musician Trevor Jackson, Austrian electronic music pioneer Christian Fennesz with renowned New York video artist Charles Atlas, plus the UK première of Peter Greenaway’s Tulse Luper VJ Performance.
There will also be a special World Cinema remix set from current #1 AV artists Addictive TV themselves.
Also on the bill: Japanese audiovisual artist Ryoichi Kurokawa with his first UK performance, the brilliant Berlin-based Rechenzentrum with a new AV show and the highly innovative Spanish team behind Reactable – who’s demo on youtube.com last week amazed over half a million people in just a few days!
On Saturday, March 17, London’s ICA will host an audiovisual club night headlined by Speedy J & Scott Pagano and – just confirmed – a rare and exclusive audiovisual set from EBN’s Gardner Post and Brian Kane.
