THIS year, the annual east London photography festival, Photomonth 2011 runs from October 1 to November 30, 2011.
The event opens on October 1 with a retrospective of the documentary photographer Phil Maxwell at Bishopsgate Institute, 230 Bishopsgate, EC2M 4QH, where his work is being archived for public use.
The exhibition, which runs until November 30, is open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5.30pm.
More than 100 galleries and venues in East London and beyond are exhibiting work by established and emerging photographers.
Major exhibitions include Simon Roberts at Flowers, Faseeh Sams at Gallery 320, Rob Macdonald at the new Hackney Picture House, Kerry Clarke and Gemma Donovan at the Townhouse, Andrew Grainger at the Carpenters Arms and Colin O’Brien at Pages of Hackney.
Original venues include Agnes b, Heel Gallery in the Grocery and Lock 7 Cycle Café.
Photomonth, which aims to be the most inclusive photography festival, creates opportunities for everyone to be involved in photography with a wide range of workshops and courses, photowalks, the photofair, the photo-open show, seminars, discussions, artists talks and entertaining events.

Photomonth Photofair – at Spitalfields Traders Market, Brushfield Street, E1 6AA on Saturday, October 8 (10am to 6pm). Admission free.
There will be a hundred stalls and stands with photographers selling prints, galleries, books, magazines, products and services – an ideal opportunity to buy new work at very reasonable prices. Look out for the Camera Obscura Campervan by Fotonow.

Simon Roberts delivers this years keynote lecture and introduces the first London screening of his new video work Landscapes of Innocence & Experience.

Photomonth Portfolio Review at the V&A Museum of Childhood, Cambridge Heath Road, E2 9PA on October 29 and 30 (11am to 4pm).
An excellent opportunity for photographers to showcase their work to curators, publishers, picture editors, gallerists, agents and established artists.
