Planet Earth Live coming to London's O2 Arena in 2011
Story by Jack Foley
A LIVE music show based on the BBC TV series Planet Earth is coming to London’s O2 Arena in 2011.
Planet Earth Live will combine HD footage of wildlife and the environment – as featured in the landmark series – with music from an 84-piece orchestra.
It was staged in the US earlier this year and proved a massive success.
At present, London’s O2 will play host to just two UK shows, which will both take place on July 30, 2011.
Award-winning composer George Fenton will conduct the BBC Concert Orchestra and mezzo-soprano Haley Glennie-Smith for the music, while footage from the series – which was originally broadcast in 2006, will be shown on the venue’s massive screens.
Commenting on what to expect, Mr Fenton told the BBC: “Planet Earth Live is a visual and musical spectacular which is designed to create, as a live event, the same unforgettable experience that Planet Earth did when it was broadcast.”
