Robert Eadie: It’s Wild Out There - The Air Gallery
AN EXHIBITION entitled Robert Eadie: It’s Wild Out There will be on display at The Air Gallery from June 6 to June 12, 2010.
With more than thirty canvases by Robert Eadie, It’s Wild Out There takes the viewer on a journey through the artist’s own experiences with nature.
Eadie spends a great deal of his time on his own exploring the wilderness in the UK and France. His major trips include the Amazon jungle, the deserts of Oman, Jordan, South West America and most recently, Sweden. But it is the countryside of Sussex, where Eadie has spent the past two years, that forms the main inspiration for this exhibition.
He does not paint on location as his landscapes are imaginative rather than representational. Instead he returns to his remote and rural studio; his mind fired by the memories of each trip. The paintings that he creates are a combination of his visual memory of the natural environment that he has visited, and his personal response to it. Each work is charged with accident, spontaneity and emotional impact.
As Eadie himself explains: “I see my work as an attempt to fix feelings in paint, so that each painting becomes a small permanent record of one man’s response to the natural world.”
Robert Eadie trained at Byam Shaw School of Art where he won the Bateson Mason Award for Drawing, Heatherley’s School of Art, Brighton College of Art and The Slade. His last exhibition was held in 2008 at Wimbledon Fine Art Gallery. He lives and works near Petworth in West Sussex.
