Royal Windsor Racecourse to host first War Horse fireworks spectacular

Event preview

ON SUNDAY, November 2, 2014, Royal Windsor Racecourse will host the first dazzling firework adaptation of the well-known book War Horse.

The book, written by Michael Morpugo, has also been turned into a popular film and theatre production, and now Royal Windsor Racecourse is the first venue to host the official firework display.

By kind permission of the author the firework production company, Fantastic Fireworks, has been granted the right to stage his epic war story as a fireworks display, which is being run to commemorate 100 years since the outbreak of World War One.

Along with the fireworks, viewers can expect music and dazzling special effects. The display will be narrated by actor Robert Powell, whose hit movies include Jesus of Nazareth and the 1978 remake of The Thirty Nine Steps.

Royal Windsor Racecourse Executive Director, Stuart Dorn, said: “We are delighted to be staging such a prestigious event. We can’t wait to see War Horse here in such a unique creation. Along with the fireworks and special effects, it is a great opportunity for the whole family to enjoy a great night of entertainment at the racecourse.”

Fantastic Fireworks are used to providing dramatic displays for big occasions and have recently come back from the Cannes Film Festival, creating a display to celebrate the launch of Expendables 3.

However, the spectacular scenes are not just reserved for A-list film stars, as Jon Culverhouse, Managing Director, explained: “One special effect I can reveal is that we will be reproducing the figure of Joey the Warhorse in a flaming life-size replica. We have many more magical moments you’ll have to wait and see on the night!”

Tickets will go on sale in July 2014 and will be available to buy online (
