The Children of Húrin launch

Feature by Lizzie Guilfoyle

THE WORLD wide launch of the long awaited new novel from J.R.R. Tolkien, The Children of Húrin, which has been painstakingly edited by Christopher Tolkien from his father’s many drafts, will take place on Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at Waterstone’s Bookstore in Piccadilly.

To celebrate the occasion there will be a series of readings, competitions and in-store activities.

These will include a unique reading from The Children of Húrin by actor Bernard Hill (King Théoden in The Lord of the Rings films) who, along with Oscar Award-winning illustrator Alan Lee, will be signing copies of the book.

Stunning characters from The Lord of the Rings stage show, including Orcs and Superorcs, will also be on hand to entertain. And the first 50 customers in the queue can buy copies of The Children of Húrin pre-signed by Christopher Tolkien.

The Children of Húrin by J.R.R. Tolkien, and edited by Christopher Tolkien, will be simultaneously published in the UK in two editions – a standard hardback edition at £18.99 and a deluxe slipcased edition at £60.
