The Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair - January 2014
THE NEXT Decorative Antiques and Textiles Fair will take place at Battersea Evolution (The Marquee) from January 21 to January 26, 2014.
It will feature an exhibition of Russian winter sports paintings to mark the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics (February 7 to February 23). This special selling exhibition will be staged by Decorative Fair exhibitor John Barkes, a London-based dealer in Soviet realist paintings.
The paintings date from the 1960s and 70s and have been collected by Barkes over the past 20 years from artists’ studios in St. Petersburg.
All the works will be for sale. There will be a number of large paintings measuring up to 6ft x 5ft and a significant collection of smaller works. They will be displayed in the brasserie at the front of the Fair.
Also a feature of the fair will be Miss Austen at Home: from Mansfield Park to Chawton, a display of late Georgian interiors in the Regency period.
This display of interiors that Jane Austen would have been familiar with, will include an imaginary drawing room for Mansfield Park (the book celebrates its bicentenary in 2014), inspired by Godmersham Park, a fine country house Jane’s brother Edward inherited, and a parlour inspired by Jane’s later home at Chawton Cottage in Hampshire.
This feature is being curated by Helen Linfield, one of the UK’s leading experts in 18th and 19th century English furniture, and will include Georgian and Regency items typical of Jane Austen’s lifetime.
All items in the display will be for sale, and will be drawn from exhibitors at the Fair.
The Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair is an inspirational interiors event selling antiques and C20th design to decorators and private buyers seeking unusual and special items.
Over 140 exhibitors from the UK and Europe take part, specialising in traditional and modern English and European furniture, works of art of all periods, and interesting one-off accessories including mirrors and lighting.
The Fair runs three times a year. Dates in 2014 are: Winter, January 21 – 26; Spring, April 29 – May 4; and Autumn, September 30 to October 5.
