The Illustrators 2008 - Chris Beetles Gallery

AN EXHIBITION entitled The Illustrators: The British Art of Illustration 1800 – 2008 is on display at Chris Beetles Gallery until January 3, 2009.
For 27 years the Chris Beetles Gallery has been famous for promoting the art and history of illustration. This year’s exhibition, with over 1000 pictures detailing 200 years of this significant artform, will be the largest ever.
Artists include Edward Ardizzone, Mabel Lucie Attwell, H M Bateman, Aubrey Beardsley, Max Beerbohm, Quentin Blake, Peter Brookes, Emma Chichester Clark, Peter Cross, Michael Foreman, Giles, Kathleen Hale, Peter Hampson, Ida Rentoul Outhwaite, Mervyn Peake, Arthur Rackham, William Heath Robinson, Ronald Searle, E H Shepard and Margaret Tarrant.
Accompanying the exhibition will be a sumptuous 140 page catalogue. Containing biographies, notes and 342 illustrations, it will be available from the gallery for £15 + £2 postage (UK only).
The exhibition is described by Frank Whitford in The Sunday Times Culture Section as “A Christmas treat and a source of tremendous presents, with 70% of the exhibits costing £1000 or less.”
