AN EXHIBITION featuring 50 treasures from the tomb of Tutankhamun, plus more than 130 treasures from the Valley of the Kings (all between 3,300 and 3,500 years old), will open on November 15, 2007 at London’s O2 Arena (formerly the Millenium Dome).
It will be the first time in 35 years that artefacts excavated from the boy king’s tomb are displayed in the capital.
They will include Tutankhamun’s royal diadem – the gold crown that was discovered encircling the head of his mummified body and that he probably wore during his short lifetime – and one of the gold and precious stone inlaid coffinettes that contained his mummified internal organs.
Also on display will be artefacts from other royal graves, including the intact tomb of Tutankhamun’s great-grandparents Yuya and Tuyu.
However, the famous death mask will remain in Cairo as it has become too fragile and therefore, too risky to move.
