Warli Paintings - Grosvenor Gallery
AN EXHIBITION entitled Warli Paintings will be on display at Grosvenor Gallery from February 13 to March 1, 2013.
Warli Paintings is an exhibition of works by the indigenous Warli tribe of rural Maharashtra, India.
On display will be works by the best known of these including Jivya Soma Mashe and Shantaram Tumbada, who are widely represented in Museum Collections.
Both artists continue the Warli tradition of recording the day to day activities of the Tribe using the same imagery and material as their forebears.
This exhibition is a first of its kind to be held in the Gallery and is in collaboration with Hervé Perdriolle, who is a leading expert in tribal and folk Indian art.
Times: Monday to Friday 9:30am to 5:30pm, Saturday and Sunday (by appointment only).
