Wonderland - V&A Museum of Childhood
AN EXHIBITION entitled Wonderland is on display at the V&A Museum of Childhood until January 10, 2010.
This magical exhibition features contemporary artwork portraying fairytales, myths and legends from around the world by East London Printmakers, an independent collective of around 200 artist-printmakers based in Hackney.
Featuring over 80 artworks, the exhibition includes depictions of much-loved European tales such as Hansel and Gretel by the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen’s The Ugly Duckling, as well as folklore from other continents.
The varied cultural and geographical backgrounds of the 50 exhibiting artists is evident in the 2D and 3D works which encompass good and evil, quests and heroes, love and friendship.
Visitors can create their own interpretations of fairytales and add to a mural of enchanting creatures in accompanying workshops.
The exhibition comes to the Museum of Childhood after touring the German Fairy Tale Museum, Bad Oeynhausen and the German Brothers Grimm Museum, Kassel.
Times: Monday to Sunday from 10am to 5.45pm (last admission 5.30pm), and 6pm to 9pm on the first Thursday of every month. Closed December 24, 25 and 26 every year.
