21 Jump Street sequel looks likely

21 Jump Street

Story by Jack Foley

A SEQUEL to 21 Jump Street looks likely to go-ahead, according to Variety.

Sony Pictures is reportedly putting the pieces together by closing a deal with Jonah Hill and Michael Bacall to develop a treatment for a sequel that Bacall has already signed on to write.

It has yet to open negotiations with Hill or co-star Channing Tatum to reprise their roles but it is believed that they will both return as both stars and executive producers.

Inspired by the 1980s cop series starring Johnny Depp, 21 Jump Street opened at the global box office on Friday (March 16, 2012) to widespread critical acclaim and looks on track to earn $30 million-plus for its debut weekend.

There is also the feeling that word of mouth will maintain its momentum.

There’s no word yet on whether the film’s co-directors by Phil Lord and Chris Miller will return for a second adventure.
