A SEQUEL to action-comedy hit 21 Jump Street will go before the cameras this autumn, it has been confirmed.

Columbia Pictures President Doug Belgrad told The Hollywood Reporter that he was keen to capitalise on Channing Tatum’s recent success by getting the follow-up into production as soon as possible.

Tatum has had a phenomenal 2012 so far, having scored box office hits with 21 Jump Street, romantic drama The Vow and – most recently – stripping showcase Magic Mike.

And confirming the autumn shoot, Belgrad said: “There are very few actors – I’m going to quote Amy [Pascal, Co-Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment] – who can do romance, action and comedy. We’re in business with two of them, Channing Tatum and Will Smith…. Yes, we plan to start shooting in the fall.”

Talking of Smith, Belgrad also said he intends to keep the Men in Black franchise going as well, especially in light of the success of this year’s Men In Black 3.

He added: “We’re very pleased with the financial performance of Men in Black 3 and we believe it is an ongoing franchise. We’re going to do [another one], but we don’t have clarity yet on how it should be done.”
