3 Idiots

Story by Jack Foley

BOLLYWOOD film 3 Idiots has broken box office records in its homeland of India as well as internationally.

The film has taken more than £43 million worldwide since being released on Christmas Eve 2009, breaking records for an Indian film in the US, Australia, South Africa, Pakistan, Fiji and Kenya.

The film’s star, Aamir Khan, 44, who plays a student who mysteriously disappears, said he was “so happy” with the film’s success, while its producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra added: “I’m thrilled and humbled that so many people all over the world have loved this film.”

To make the records even more significant, they have come at the end of a year that saw disappointing ticket sales of Bollywood movies.

To date, 3 Idiots has been watched by more than 60 million people and cinemas in Indian have even been forced to add extra showings to cope with demand.
