ACCLAIMED French crime drama A Prophet is to be remade by Sony.

Neal H. Moritz and Toby Jaffe are producing the film, which follows the fortunes of a young Algerian man who is mentored by a crime boss while in prison and rises to lead a syndicate.

The movie, starring Tahar Rahim, was nominated for a best foreign film Oscar and won the grand prize at the Cannes Film Festival as well as nine Cesars, the French equivalent of the Oscars.

As yet, there is no cast or director attached to the project, a production schedule or release date.

Moritz is best known as one of the producers of the Fast & Furious franchise.
