Adam Sandler's Just Go With It pips Justin Bieber to US top spot

Just Go With It

Story by Jack Foley

ADAM Sandler and Jennifer Aniston rom-com Just Go With It has just pipped Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never to the top of the US box office.

Just Go With grossed an estimated $31 million over its opening weekend, just ahead of Bieber’s $30.3 million.

What’s more, the Aniston-Sandler rom-com is expected to see a further spike on Valentine’s Day (Monday, February 14).

Never Say Never‘s performance was, however, way ahead of expectation given that it was expected to begin strong and then tail off. It grossed more than $12 million on Friday night, to lead the pack going into the weekend, and only got pipped by Just Go With It at the final furlong.

The box office performance of the documentary further underlines Bieber’s star power.

Elsewhere, meanwhile, British animated comedy Gnomeo & Juliet also performed well to land third place, while Roman epic The Eagle, starring Channing Tatum and Jamie Bell, took fourth spot.

Co-produced by Disney, Entertainment One and Sir Elton John (among others) Gnomeo & Juliet toook an estimated $25.5 million, while The Eagle also opened on the high expectations, grossing an estimated $8.6 million.
