TIM Burton’s Alice in Wonderland has continued to dominate the US box office, taking a further $62 million in its second week to firmly lay claim to the No.1 spot.

The film only saw a partial drop-off from cinema-goers, who helped the film to accumulate $116.1 million domestically in the two weeks since its release.

And this came despite strong competition from several new openers, including Matt Damon-Paul Greengrass reunion, Green Zone, which debuted in second spot with $14.5 million.

New Robert Pattinson movie Remember Me, co-starring Pierce Brosnan, didn’t take as much as anticipated, with an estimated $8.1 million, falling behind both Green Zone and another new opener, the comedy She’s Out of My League, which took $9.6 million.

The under=performance of some of those films has been attributed to Alice‘s success, as Burton’s juggernaut is the must-see movie of the moment across the globe.

World-wide, for example, the film also took another estimated $76 million to take its global total to $430 million, marking another major success for both Burton and Disney.
