TIM Burton’s 3D juggernaut Alice in Wonderland has claimed the top spot at the US box office for a third week, with an estimated $34.5 million.

The fantasy sequel has now become the highest-grossing film ever for a March release, and it continued to dominate overseas as well. The film has reached an estimated $565.8 million globally.

Elsewhere at the US box office, children’s film Diary of a Wimpy Kid pipped Gerard Butler-Jennifer Aniston romantic thriller into second place.

Diary took $21.8 million just ahead of The Bounty Hunter‘s $21 million – both performed well.

However, there was more disappointment for Universal, which saw futuristic thriller Repo Men under-perform with just $6.2 million. This followed the disappointing box office debut of Iraq-war thriller Green Zone, which opened weakly and has now only reached $24.7 million.
