Alicia Vikander to play Lara Croft in Tomb Raider

The Man From U.N.C.L.E, Alicia Vikander

Story by Jack Foley

ALICIA Vikander is to play iconic action character Lara Croft in a new Tomb Raider movie.

The film is being developed by MGM, Warner Bros. and GK Films and will tell the story of a young and untested Croft fighting to survive her first adventure.

Roar Uthaug (The Wave) is also on board to direct.

Vikander will step into shoes [and possibly swimsuits] once worn by Angelina Jolie, who famously starred in the two previous Tomb Raider movies, 2001’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and 2003’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, which established her as a bankable, franchise-carrying international star.

Vikander, who earlier this year won an Oscar for her turn in The Danish Girl and who also won widespread acclaim for her stunning performance as a robot in Ex_Machina, is hoping for a similar path.

However, she is no stranger to the action genre or big budget move making, having appeared in last year’s The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Later this year, she will also appear alongside Matt Damon in the action pic Jason Bourne.
