OSCAR-winning actress Alicia Vikander is to star in Morten Tyldum’s adaptation of Karen Dionne’s The Marsh King’s Daughter.

The dramatic thriller follows the story of a woman who risks everything to find her dangerous father, who shaped her past and threatens to steal her future.

Vikander, who won the best supporting actress Oscar for 2015’s The Danish Girl, will play Helena Pelletier, who uses her hunting and tracking skills to find her father, only to realize his escape from prison is part of an elaborate plan to kidnap her and her two young daughters.

Elle Smith and Mark L. Smith adapted the novel for the big screen, with production scheduled to commence in summer 2018.

The project also marks a reunion between Tyldum and Teddy Schwarzman after their box office and critical success with The Imitation Game.

Commenting on the production, David Kosse, president of STXinternational, said in a statement: “The Marsh King’s Daughter is one the most hypnotic thrillers you’ll ever experience… and who better than Morten Tyldum to direct this psychologically gripping story into a complex yet riveting tale about captivity and redemption.”

Vikander will next appear as video-game heroine Lara Croft in MGM’s reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise.
