ANDREW Garfield has spoken of his frustration at studio interference on The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

In an interview with The Daily Beast, the British actor – who plays Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the franchise – said he lamented the loss of some ‘deep scenes’ and blamed the studio – Sony Pictures – for ruining the ‘thread’ of the sequel.

He commented: “I think what happened was, through the pre-production, production, and post-production, when you have something that works as a whole, and then you start removing portions of it – because there was even more of it than was in the final cut, and everything was related.

“Once you start removing things and saying, ‘No, that doesn’t work,’ then the thread is broken, and it’s hard to go with the flow of the story.”

He went on to reveal that the ‘deep scenes’ he hated to lose involved his own character, Peter Parker.

Despite being a box office success, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 didn’t break records as anticipated and received its fair share of criticism for a perceived over-population of villains and storylines.

However, in spite of speaking out against the interference, Garfield maintains that he remains “proud of a lot of it” and [still] had “a good time”.

He also confessed to being “a bit taken aback by the response”.

“Is it that this is the fifth Spider-Man movie in however many years, and there’s a bit of fatigue? Is it that there was too much in there? Is it that it didn’t link? If it linked seamlessly, would that be too much? Were there tonal issues? What is it? I think all that is valuable… I love constructive criticism,” he added.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is available on Blu-ray and DVD now.
