ANDY Garcia and Oliver Platt have joined the cast of Jeremy Renner’s Kill The Messenger.

They will be joined by Tim Blake Nelson in the Michael Cuesta directed journalism drama, according to Variety.

The film is based on investigative journalist Gary Webb’s stories that alleged the CIA’s involvement in the spread of crack cocaine in Los Angeles.

Renner will head the cast and also serves as a producer.

Webb, a reporter at the San Jose Mercury News, committed suicide in 2004 after being targeted by a smear campaign when he linked the CIA to a scheme to arm Contra rebels in Nicaragua and import cocaine into California.

But his three-part series, Dark Alliance, was published and had widespread repercussions for implying that the CIA was a catalyst for the crack cocaine scourge in California.

In what looks to be a very strong ensemble cast, Rosemarie DeWitt, Lucas Hedges, Robert Patrick, Barry Pepper, Michael Sheen, Paz Vega, Michael Kenneth Williams and Mary Elizabeth Winstead are also starring.
