Angelina Jolie in talks for Aronofksy's Serena
Story by Jack Foley
ANGELINA Jolie is in talks to star in a period drama called Serena for director Darren Aronofsky.
Based on the 2008 book Serena: A Novel by Ron Rash, the film would follow the story of a man named George Pemberton as he takes his new bride to the woods of North Carolina to start a timber empire in 1929.
At first dependent on her husband, Serena soon emerges as a strong independent spirit and begins pushing her husband to ever more ruthless acts until she discovers that she can’t have children and decides to murder the son that he fathered illegitimately.
A script is in place, according to the Hollywood Reporter, although it may need work before actors commit – but Jolie is interested having recently announced her decision to withdraw from the sequel, Wanted 2.
Aronofsky is currently on post-production duties for ballet-based thriller Black Swan with Natalie Portman, while Jolie is filming The Tourist with Johnny Depp. She is also reportedly considering Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity.
