Anne Hathaway, Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett and Rihanna join all-female Ocean's 11 spin-off

One Day, Anne Hathaway

WARNER Bros is assembling an all-star female cast for its long-muted Ocean’s 11 spin-off.

Entitled Oceans Ocho, the film already has Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett heading up the cast. But it now also boasts Anne Hathaway, singer Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling and Awkwafina.

Although exact plot details are sketchy, the film will obviously revolve around an all-female group of thieves as they attempt to pull off an impossible heist.

Steven Soderbergh, who directed the George Clooney/Brad Pitt led Ocean’s 11 (and its two sequels) will serve as a producer and is expected to be deeply involved in the spin-off.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the plan is for Soderbergh to finish shooting his own heist film, Logan Lucky, in Atlanta before seguing to the Oceans spin-off.

Gary Ross is directing with production due to commence in October in New York. He also co-wrote the screenplay with Olivia Milch.

Warner Bros has long been planning a female-led spin-off movie based around the Ocean’s 11 formula but the risk now seems heightened given the apparent failure of the all-female Ghostbusters reboot to capture the type of box office Sony Pictures had intended. Indeed, that film now looks set to cost the studio somewhere in the region of $70 million, according to recent reports.

But the star power of Blanchett, Bullock and Hathaway alone should guarantee a lot of interest.
