Anne Hathaway to star in monster feature Colossal

Les Miserables

Story by Jack Foley

ANNE Hathaway is to star in a new monster feature named Colossal, which is being described as Godzilla meets Lost in Translation.

Nacho Vigalondo (of Timecrimes fame) is writing and directing the movie, which has been unveiled at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hathaway will play Gloria, an ordinary woman who, after losing her job and her fiancé, decides to leave her life in New York to move back to her hometown.

But when reports begin to surface that a giant lizard is destroying the city of Tokyo, Gloria slowly becomes aware that she is strangely connected to those events via the power of her mind.

In a bid to prevent further destruction, she must discover why her life has such a colossal effect on the fate of the world.

Vigalondo commented: “Colossal is my most ambitious script so far, and probably also the most personal one. Having Anne and this terrific team around goes beyond my craziest expectations.”

Voltage Pictures are supporting the movie. The company also has Christoph Waltz’s directorial debut, The Worst Marriage in Georgetown, to promote at Cannes.

That movie, based on Franklin Foer’s New York Times Magazine article, will chronicle the true story of Albrect Muth (Waltz), an eccentric social climber who seduced and married a wealthy older widow, Viola Drath.

Waltz is set to start shooting in October.
