Anthony Mackie eyes Captain America sequel

Anthony Mackie

Story by Jack Foley

ANTHONY Mackie is in negotiations to star in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Hurt Locker actor is being lined up for the role of the Falcon, one of mainstream comics’ first black super-heroes and perhaps its first American one.

The Falcon is also known as Sam Wilson, a Harlem-based character who, in the comic books, enjoyed many street adventures with Captain America serving as his partner.

The character derives his powers from a suit that allows him to fly and enhances his strength but he can also telepathically talk to birds.

Although plot details for Captain America: The Winter Soldier are being kept under wraps, The Hollywood Reporter suspects it could be based on a storyline from the 2000s that resurrected Captain America’s sidekick Bucky as a brainwashed super-assassin known as the Winter Soldier.

Joe and Anthony Russo are directing the sequel, which had a release date of April 4, 2014 confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con at the weekend.

In addition to The Hurt Locker, Mackie has also recently been seen in The Adjustment Bureau and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

He is also part of the all-star crime movie Gangster Squad and recently completed shooting Michael Bay’s Pain and Gain. He is currently filming Runner, Runner with Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake.
